A friend recently asked me, "Why is art so expensive?"  Not thinking too much of it, I listed off a number of factors that come into play: materials, size, time, skill, uniquity, demand, the market, etcetera.  Yet above and beyond all this is something far more subjective.  When all is said and done, people usually purchase art because they connect to it in some way.  How much would you be willing to spend to begin and end every day with a smile on your face?
